Fly Fishing 101

For 2026

A two-session class covering all the basics needed to get
launched on your fly fishing career. Don’t miss either one.

Our class on Fly Fishing 101 will be held at the GBF clubhouse at the end of Douglas Blvd. in Granite Bay. John Peterson and Jim Holmes will conduct the class. Start time is 6:00 PM and will go until about 9 each of two nights. Both nights are required as different material is covered.

In this class, we’ll cover the basics of fly fishing including:

All major fly fishing equipment.
Essential knots.
Casting (at the beginning of each class).
Fly line essentials.
Leader rigging from fly line to fly.
Miscellaneous equipment.
Still water fish and associated gear.
Trout and bass/panfish food and flies.
Fishing strategies.
And much, much more!

GBF members can register on the event calendar for given dates by clicking here. Both dates required, as second date is not a repeat of the first one.

There will be a $10.00 charge at the first meeting to cover printing expenses for a 30 page manual for your use.
